A genetic disorder that is either inherited or spontaneously mutated. It affects nearly 50,000 people in the United States and more than one million people worldwide. At least two children born each day will have TSC. Current estimates place TSC-affected births at one in 6,000 live births. The affects of this condition are varying in every case, which is why the medical professionals are researching to gain more understanding. Symptoms and areas affected are the skin, brain, nervous system, kidneys, heart, and tumor growth. Research has linked many cases of cerebral palsy, epilepsy, severe mental retardation, behavior problems, and unexplained tumor growth to Tuberous Sclerosis.
